If you intend to transition your BigPond email to an Outlook Account and wish to maintain the attachments, it is quite easy, especially if you plan to utilize IMAP to access your emails. First, log into Outlook on your computer and add your BigPond account. Click on ‘File,’ then on ‘Add Account,’ and fill in your BigPond email. If requested, the incoming server will be imap.telstra.com with Port 993 using SSL, and your outgoing server will be smtp.telstra.com using Port 465 or 587, also secured using SSL.
After the account is included, BigPond will transfer emails together with attachments to Outlook. In case you are looking to transfer only certain emails with attachments, simply drag these emails out of the inbox folder within the BigPond server into a new folder you have created in Outlook. For those who would like to make a copy of such attachments permanently, there is an option in Outlook to export emails with the attached files into a PST data file, which can be preserved from the ‘Export’ option found in the file menu.
In case you face any problems, confirm that all settings are properly adjusted and that there is a good internet connection for synchronization to stabilize. Thanks to Outlook’s adoption of the IMAP standard, this procedure is painless because one is able to have all emails and attachments in a single folder.
